JANUARY 13, 2021 SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT: REAL SMALL-TIMER – FROM WBAP: New York City will terminate business contracts with President Donald Trump after last week’s insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday. The Trump Organization is under city contract to operate the two ice rinks and a carousel in Central Park as well as a golf course in the Bronx. The Trump Organization profits about $17 million a year from those sites, de Blasio said. “I’m here to announce that the city of New York is severing all contracts with the Trump Organization,” de Blasio said. It is the latest example of how the Jan. 6 breach after a Trump rally is affecting the Republican president’s business interests. The small-timers are at work, getting in their kicks at the president. Bill de Blasio is one of the smallest of them all, and an absolutely horrible mayor. I guess this is as brilliant as he gets. HER AGAIN – FROM THE WASHINGTON TIMES: President-elect Joseph R. Biden on Wednesday named Samantha Power, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations during the Obama administration, as his pick to lead the U.S. Agency for International Development. Mr. Biden also elevated the position to be in the National Security Council (NSC). “As USAID Administrator, Ambassador Power will be a powerful force for lifting up the vulnerable, ushering in a new era of human progress and development, and advancing American interests globally,” Mr. Biden said. Before she served as U.N. ambassador from 2013-2017, Ms. Power was on the NSC staff from 2009-2013 as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights. Another recruit from the failed foreign policy of the Obama administration. We'll have a kind of shadow government, where the shadow of Barack will be seen in every hallway. January 13, 2021 Permalink ABSOLUTELY CHILLING – OVERNIGHT: The socialists in Congress are getting ready for their "To Moscow with Love" show. I want no part of it. From the New York Post:
COMMENT: The language of a budding totalitarian. We don't need the government to tell us what to think. In the immortal words of Sam Goldwyn, "Include me out." January 13, 2021 Permalink
MAKING A JOKE OF THE CONSTITUTION – AT 5:20 P.M. ET: So President Trump becomes the only president in American history to be impeached twice. I hope the American people are watching their elected representatives make fools of themselves. From Fox:
Poor journalism there. Not all of the rioters were Trump supporters. Indeed, they may have been a minority.
What a circus. Most Americans probably know that the House cannot remove a president. It can send a bill of impeachment to the Senate, where the president is tried. But Mitch McConnell has already ruled out any trial before President Trump leaves office a week from today.
COMMENT: It would have been nice if some of the solemn, self-righteous members of the House, on the Democratic side, had vigorously condemned the violence we saw all summer long in Democratic-controlled cities. But I guess they had shopping to do. Now the question is whether the Senate can try a president who is no longer in office. CNN will be holding a prayer session tonight to pray that it can. CNN needs Trump, even after he leaves the White House. What else have they got? January 13, 2021 Permalink
JANUARY 12, 2021 SHORT TAKES ON THE DRIFTING WRECKAGE – OVERNIGHT: TRUE? – FROM RASMUSSEN: The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll, Sponsored by SLANTED from Sharyl Attkisson, for Monday shows that 49% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. Fifty-one percent (50%) disapprove. The latest figures include 36% who Strongly Approve of the job Trump is doing and 40% who Strongly Disapprove. This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -4. These figures may appear out of whack with other polls, and may be, but Rasmussen has a good record of accuracy. It's possible, and this is speculation, that Trump could be benefiting from a sympathy vote. BACK AGAIN ON THE BESTSELLER LIST – FROM DAILYWIRE: “Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.” — GEORGE ORWELL, “1984” January 12, 2021 Permalink
ONE DOWN – OVERNIGHT: PBS has discarded a nut case who was caught on tape making vile comments. One small step for man. From Daily Caller:
COMMENT: It's hard to think of much good coming out of the current orgy in Washington, but there is some outside possibility that the left will realize it will be more closely scrutinized and may not be able to get away with its usual disgraceful behavior. That is a wish. January 12, 2021 Permalink THE FLOOD – AT 8:16 P.M. ET: Look, we're flooded with news, or what passes for news. We are inundated with comments, many from half-brained politicians, analyzed for us by quarter-brained journalists. I spend most of my time reading, just to keep up, and give the impression to you, our readers, that I actually know what I'm writing about. Sometimes I do. You know what's going on. You keep up. So I thought I would just give you this. Frankly, I think it's the most interesting story of the day. From Fox:
Oh really?
COMMENT: I am immediately moving to an airport. I can live on those airport benches. I've spent hours on them. As long as they keep the food concessions open, I'll be happy. Free of CNN, free of CNN! Thank God, Almighty, I'm free of CNN! January 12, 2021 Permalink

SIZZLING SITES Power Line "The left needs two things to survive. It needs mediocrity, and it needs dependence. It nurtures mediocrity in the public schools and the universities. It nurtures dependence through its empire of government programs. A nation that embraces mediocrity and dependence betrays itself, and can only fade away, wondering all the time what might have been." - Urgent Agenda
